Job description, work day and responsibilities
We’re a catalyst for economic prosperity and community growth. It takes jobs to make communities work. Community development is more than laying bricks and mortar, it’s about creating opportunities for successful living. That’s why we hire from within the neighborhoods we work in. We also help students prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities by offering scholarships and educational programs through our community partners. It’s all about making something of yourself “I came to HHDC as an After School Matters intern in the summer of 2007. For six weeks, which is as long as the program lasts, I worked as an administrative assistant at the downtown corporate office. I enjoyed working in a corporate environment—and in real estate management. I also got a chance to show what I could do—to demonstrate my professionalism, hard work, and attention to detail. When the summer internship program ended, my supervisors hired me as a part-time administrative assistant. I am happy to say I am now an Assistant Property Manager at Rev. Daniel Alvarez. I’m also enrolled at Wright College. It’s all about making something of yourself.” HHDC currently employs 276 people and often has employment opportunities to help manage and maintain our portfolio of properties. Our for-profit general contractor, Tropic Construction, regularly hires local residents to help build its properties, and actively seeks relationships with Latino, African-American, and women-owned subcontractors.
