Job description, work day and responsibilities
Who We Are: Nightingale Veterinary Partners is a fast-growing family of veterinary practices, headquartered in New York City. The organization includes practices in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Florida.
We are building a company focused on clinical excellence, sustainable growth, and long-term value creation. As we continue to scale, we are seeking a technology leader who wants to play a meaningful role in helping shape the future of the organization.
About the Role: Nightingale Veterinary Partners is seeking a hands-on Director of IT to join our leadership team and help guide the company through its next stage of growth.
Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), this leader will serve as the senior-most hands-on technology leader in the organization, owning day-to-day IT operations and infrastructure across our corporate office and all practice locations.
The Director of IT will lead a growing IT function while serving as the primary technology liaison between practice teams, practice support departments, and external vendors and managed-service partners.
While deep technical fundamentals are essential, this role balances hands-on execution with leadership — establishing the systems, security protocols, standards, and documentation that allow a multi-location organization to operate reliably and scale efficiently.
We are seeking a builder, operator, and hands-on technologist who enjoys rolling up their sleeves when necessary but is equally comfortable setting standards, evaluating tools and vendors, improving processes, and helping the organization make better technology decisions.
This is a hands-on, in-office leadership role based in New York City.
What You’d Do: • Serve as the senior hands-on technology leader for veterinary practice locations and Nightingale support office.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team as the organization scales.
• Own user administration and identity management across all systems, including account provisioning and deprovisioning, role-based access, and employee onboarding and offboarding.
• Manage software licensing and SaaS subscriptions (for example, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and ezyVet), controlling cost, compliance, and renewals.
• Develop, implement, and maintain security protocols and procedures, including multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, endpoint protection, data backup and recovery, and incident response.
• Drive remediation of security audit findings and support ongoing compliance efforts, including PCI-DSS obligations across card-accepting practices.
• Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure across corporate and practice sites, including segmentation, wireless, firewalls, and remote access.
• Provide and oversee desktop support and end-user troubleshooting, ensuring reliable day-to-day technology operations across all locations.
• Manage relationships with external vendors and managed-service and security partners, holding them accountable to defined standards, service levels, and budgets.
• Establish IT standards, policies, and documentation that enable a multi-location organization to operate consistently and reduce single points of failure.
• Partner with leadership on technology budgeting, planning, risk management, and cyber-insurance readiness.
